NIF announces the Selection Process for its next Associate Director
NIF began two decades ago to support research and writing about post-1947 India. Our three programs include a non-fiction Book Prize about modern India, a Fellowship for writing a non-fiction book about post-1947 India in English (11 rounds have produced 35 books), a Fellowship for translating non-fiction books from ten Indian languages (1st-round books in Bengali, Marathi and Kannada will be published next year) and Public Lecture. The attached sheet of books and authors will give you a sense of the cognitive diversity supported.
The position will play a central role in shaping and advancing NIF’s publishing program and is a full-time position based in Bangalore that operates from a new NIF office in Yemlur.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to
Collaborating with unpublished NIF Fellows to bring their manuscripts to life.
Strengthening the internal NIF community of funders, board members, staff, published fellows, and book prize winners.
Establishing NIF’s engagement and relationship with the external ecosystem of books.
Increasing the visibility of NIF’s brand with potential fellowship applicants.
Supporting the governing board and staff on operational and administrative issues related to our four programs.
Working with fellows and publishers to convert the manuscripts of unpublished fellows to books.
The candidate will have a demonstrated track record in publishing, academia, public policy, or other non-profits. But candidates from the private sector looking to transition to the world of ideas and books are also encouraged to apply.
The candidate will have a degree in History, Political Science, Literature, or related fields and will have excellent writing, editing, and communication skills. The candidate must have high interpersonal skills, organizational capabilities, and emotional intelligence.
